Professional Bed Bug Heat Treatment

If you are unsure whether or not you have bed bugs, a K-9 Inspection should be done before continuing. Once it is confirmed you have bed bugs we will provide you with a customer information package that will explain some important things you need to be aware of during your initial assessment. The first assessment will include a pre-treatment checklist. This checklist will consist of everyday items and belongings that must be removed from your home or commercial space before your heat treatment. Examples include aerosol cans, makeup, oil paintings, soda cans, and heat-sensitive medication.

Heat treatments are successful for two reason:

1) Bed bugs are attracted to heat sources, like body heat. Rather than trying to escape, they emerge from hiding and come out to the heat source we create. Bed bugs are attracted to heat: 10-15 degrees before lethal temperatures the bed bugs get active and come out of the structures from where they are hiding. Typically they end up in the middle of the rooms crawling around until they die at 50 degrees Celsius or 122 Fahrenheit.

2) Bed bugs are attracted to CO2: The reason bed bugs end up in our beds is from all the CO2 that is in our beds and from the CO2 we exhale. They know this is where they can feed. Our heaters emit CO2 and this is another way bed bugs are drawn out.

There’s a myth that heat won’t kill bed bugs that are in the walls. The two reasons above make it so bed bugs do not stay in the walls if they are there. We see this myth being cycled by pest control companies that do not use heat and only spray. If this was true our heat treatment would not be as successful as it is and we wouldn’t offer a guarantee. Pest control companies that use chemical sprays do not offer a guarantee! That should say something.

Be cautious of heat treatment companies who charge half the price and use electric heaters. These heaters use your house’s own power and do not get hot enough. These companies also typically do not offer a warranty!
