Why Use Heat?

Heat treatments are a popular, environmentally friendly alternative to using chemicals to eliminate bed bug infestations. There is abundant scientific evidence that bed bugs are becoming increasingly resistant to chemicals but are physically not capable of surviving elevated ambient (above 122°F) temperatures. Heat treatments are the only way to ensure all stages of bed bug life (eggs, nymphs and adults) have been killed in a single treatment.

Exterminate Bed Bugs With Heat Here In Peterborough

What exactly is a heat treatment? The most optimal method for a heat treatment is to heat the entire unit in the attempt to kill every bed bug. The temperature needs to get to a minimum of 50 celsius spread through the entire treatment space. Powerful fans are needed to circulate the heat. Heat sensors are needed to be placed around the perimeter of the house in order to monitor the heat. It takes a skilled and experienced heat exterminator to successful eradicate every bed bug. It’s the exterminators job to eliminate nay cold spots by moving personal items in the heat. Heat penetrates fairly deeply but moving everything in the heat is necessary for killing every bed bug.

There are a few different types of heat systems that an exterminator may have.

  1. High powered electric heaters with a large diesel generator trailer or truck. These systems produces adequate heat but are bulky and loud. This system requires a lot of set up and is the least discreet.

  2. Small electric heaters that uses the clients own power. These are not very powerful and can heat a maximum space of roughly 400 square feet. Essentially can heat a hotel room in 8 hours. These are discreet however.

  3. Re-circulating propane heaters are safe propane heaters that are completely enclosed in the treatment space. They have an automatic carbon monoxide shut off and temperature control. Propane heaters produce more heat than electric heaters. We have this system because it is completely discreet high powered clean heat.

  4. High powered indirect fired propane heaters are the heaters you typically see on construction sites. These are extremely high powered but has no control on the how hot it gets and managing the toxins. These are also not discreet by the heater being outdoors with long tubes going into the treatment space. These can also be fairly loud. However this system is the best for very large spaces.
